How it works

A series that grows, one night at a time

Like a favourite book series, except the hero is someone you tuck in every night.

  1. Step one

    Begin a series

Answer a few gentle questions: who the heroes are (brothers and sisters can star together), who their friends are, what special powers they have, and where they live. We paint the cast and write Book 1.

  2. Step two

    Add tonight’s book

Each evening, pick a mood and maybe a moment from the day, like a wobbly tooth or a brave first swim. A new book is ready in a few minutes.

  3. Step three

    The same friends, every night

The characters keep their faces, their powers and their world. Each book remembers the last, so the story grows up alongside your child.

A peek inside

Meet Pip and the Lantern Fox

A sample series, made from one parent’s answers on a sleepy Tuesday. Every book has a cover, six to ten painted pages, a calm narrator and a theme melody that belongs to this series alone.

Book 2 · page 4

Juniper’s tail glowed the colour of warm honey. “Brave doesn’t mean not scared,” she whispered. “It means holding a paw while you are.”

So Pip held on, and together they stepped into the Lantern Library.

Read aloud by a calm narrator, with the series’ melody playing softly underneath.

  • On every screen

iPhone, iPad and the web share one library, so tonight’s book is wherever bedtime happens.

Plans

Credits for every kind of night

Each plan gives you story credits every month. Spend them how you like: a fully painted, narrated book, or a simpler story to read together, which uses fewer. Half of what you don’t use carries over to the next month. Or skip the plan and buy credits as you go, at a little more each.

Safety and privacy

Made with the care you’d want at bedtime

You decide what goes into every story, and you can take everything back out. Read our privacy notes.

  • Gentle by design

Stories stay kind and cozy: no violence, nothing scarier than a mild thrill, no brands or borrowed characters. Tell us any fears and we’ll keep them out.

  • Photos stay private

A photo is optional and only helps us draw your child’s likeness. It is never shown to anyone else, and you can delete it any time.

  • No ads, ever

We’re paid by families, not advertisers. We never sell your data or use your child’s stories to advertise.

  • For grown-ups only

Accounts are for parents and guardians. Children never sign in, chat or type, and there’s nothing to buy from inside a book.

Questions

Things parents ask us

Anything else? Write to zzz@goodnightkiddo.com. A real person reads every note.

What exactly is a series?

A series is your children’s own little world: one or more heroes (often your kids, starring together), a few friends with special powers, a place they live, and a look all of their own. Book 1 introduces everyone.

Every book in a series starts from the same place, like the castle tower or tucked up in bed when something taps on the window. Each night you choose: pick up where the last book left off, or set off on a brand-new adventure with the same characters, who still remember what happened before. You can have several series going at once, each with its own world and starting point.

How long is a book?

A book is one complete bedtime story, not a long chapter book. Each series has a length you choose, read aloud in about: 4 minutes (Catnap), 7 minutes (Cozy Tale), 10 minutes (Moonlit Journey), 12 minutes (Starlit Voyage) or 15 minutes (Grand Adventure). You also choose how often there’s a picture, from every page to just the cover; pages without one let the words paint the scene. Every one ends calm and sleepy.

How do credits work?

Your plan gives you story credits every month, and you choose how to spend them each night. The story is always written with the same care. Pictures, how often they appear, and a narrator are up to you: a Cozy Tale with painted pictures every other page and our premium narrator uses 7 credits, and a story you read aloud yourself, with no pictures, uses just 1. You’ll always see what a book uses before you make it.

Up to half of the credits you don’t use carry over into the next month, for that month only. No plan? Buy credits as you need them instead; they never expire, and cost about 15% more than with a plan.

How long does a new book take?

Usually a few minutes. The first book of a new series takes a little longer, because we also paint the cast and compose the theme melody. You can close the page while you wait. The book will be on your shelf when it’s ready.

What ages is it for?

Children from about 2 to 12. You tell us the listener’s age, and we pitch the words, length and gentleness to match.

Who writes and paints the books?

Each book is created with generative AI, guided by your answers and by our story guidelines. Those guidelines keep out violence, real brands, borrowed characters, and anything you’ve told us to avoid. Everything you type, and every story we write, passes through a safety check first.

What happens if we use up this month’s credits?

You can add extra credits at any time. They’re only used once your monthly credits are gone, and they never expire. Either way, a family can make up to 2 new books a day, which keeps bedtime calm. Reading a book again is always free. How books are counted

Can we use it on an iPhone or iPad?

Yes. The Goodnight Kiddo app for iPhone and iPad shares the same library as the web, so a book made at the kitchen table is waiting in bed. You can subscribe on either one.

Can I cancel?

Anytime, in a couple of taps. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for. If you delete your account, we delete every book, photo and recording with it.

Tonight

Tonight could be Book 1.

It takes about five minutes to set up a series. The hardest part is choosing the hero’s special power.
